Where Is Thumbkin? Lyrics
A beloved fingerplay song set to the tune of Frère Jacques, in which each finger — Thumbkin, Pointer, Tall Man, Ring Man, and Pinky — pops up in turn to say "here I am." Best for ages 1–5. The song is a gentle, joyful way to teach the names of the fingers while building fine-motor control and bilateral coordination (using both hands together). The call-and-response ("Where is Thumbkin?" / "Here I am!") also models simple conversation turns and gives toddlers a satisfying, repeatable script to join in on. Hide hands behind your back, then reveal one finger at a time for a little anticipation game. How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you. Run away. Run away. Where is Tall Man? Where is Tall Man? Here I am! Here I am! How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you. Run away. Run away.
